Bobtail Discovery Slickshift Fitting

The Synchro Gearboxes Slickshift is essentially a short shift kit. It's been available for years and has always been on my 'to buy' list, I noticed this week that they're out of stock in a lot of places so I grabbed one from the one supplier that had them, before the prices rocket or they become unavailable. This Discovery has an R380 fitted from a 1994 model but the Discovery 1 kit fits LT77 and R380

Step 1. Remove the centre console. Feeling like a genius for splitting the console for easy removal.

Step 1

Step B. Observe the old retaining plate, bias springs and rubber thing you can't see. Remove them.

Step B

Step III. Pull the gear stick out - mine was stuck in really well and I had to use a long bar to pop it out.

Step III

Step 4. Fit the spacer along with the new retaining cup thing, smear it all with grease.

Step 4

Step E. Place the fancy anodised cap on top to look sexy, it has a recess machined in it for the rubber thing that you can't see.

Step E

Step VII. Bolt it all down with the new bias springs and adjuster. The adjuster should be set up so 3rd and 4th are in a straight line.

Step VII

Step 9. Put the centre console back together, and you're finished!
